Gather up all crossword lovers! Crossword Puzzle Day will be celebrated on 21 December!
A crossword is a word puzzle that usually takes the form of a square or a rectangular grid of white-and black-shaded squares. The goal is to fill the white squares with letters, forming words or phrases, by solving clues, which lead to the answers. The form of a crossword could vary from country to country, and the clues provided are also varied in type and level of difficulties.
The Crossword Puzzle Day is celebrated to commemorate the first publishing of a crossword (at that time was called word-cross puzzle) on 21 December 1913 in New York World newspaper by Arthur Wynne, a journalist from Liverpool, England. Since then, crossword quickly gained popularity, and today remains one of the most played puzzle games ever created.
