Buyeo Seodong Lotus Festival

Girl-01Are you in South Korea today? If yes, then you are in luck, because Buyeo Seodong Lotus Festival is currently held on 6-15 July this year at Buyeo county, South Korea! The festival is held in Gungnamji, the first man-made pond in the nation, located in the Seodong Park. Buyeo Seodong Lotus Festival is selected as 1 of the “10 Outstanding Festivals” by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in Korea.

The festival celebrates the beauty of lotus flowers and the importance of preserving wild flowers. During it, visitors can enjoy the beautiful view of Seodong Park that is filled with thousands of lotus flowers of various kinds and colors! The program of Buyeo Seodong Lotus Festival consists of various activities, the most popular among them are making paper lotus flowers and making soaps from lotus flowers.

The most popular event at the festival is the performance showcasing the love story between Prince Seodong (King Mu’s childhood name) and Princess Seonhwa. King Mu was the 30th king of Baekje, one of the Three Kingdoms of Korea, while Princess Seonhwa was the daughter of King Jinpyeong of Silla, and later the wife of King Mu. There are also celebratory performance and concert, and at night, there will be a parade and Seodong Park will be lit by LED illuminations and colorful lanterns. You can also find various food sold during the festival, among them are ice cream and tea made from lotus flower, and also delicious local dishes.

While in Buyeo, you could also visit other popular tourist destinations located nearby the festival grounds, including several Baekje cultural historic sites such as the Baekje Wangneungwon (royal mausoleum), Nakhwaam, and the Baekje Historical Museum.
