Our book of February is Harold and the Purple Crayon! It is a 1955 children’s book by Crockett Johnson. It led to a series of other books, and inspired many adaptations. The book inspired programmer Petri Purho to create the computer game Crayon Physics Deluxe, The book potentially inspired the kid’s TV show Chalkzone, and has been used frequently in children’s and art education lesson plans. Based on a 2007 online poll, the National Education Association named the book one of its “Teachers’ Top 100 Books for Children”. In 2012 it was ranked number 16 among the “Top 100 Picture Books” in a survey published by School Library Journal. Continue reading
Let’s be prepared, because one of the biggest festival in the world is coming. Yes, it is time for Carnevale di Venezia or the Carnival of Venice! It is an annual festival held in Venice, Veneto, Italy that ends with the Christian celebration of Lent, forty days before Easter, on Shrove Tuesday (Martedì Grasso or Mardi Gras), the day before Ash Wednesday. Our woman hero of February is Sarojini Naidu! She was an Indian independence activist. She took part in the National Movement, became a follower of Mahatma Gandhi and fought for the attainment of Swaraj. She became the President of Indian National Congress and later she was appointed taao the Governor of the United Provinces, now Uttar Pradesh. Known as the ‘Nightingale of India’, she was also a noted poet. Her poetry includes children’s poems, nature poems, patriotic poems and poems of love and death. Continue reading

Groundhog Day (Pennsylvania German: Grund’sau dåk, Grundsaudaag, Grundsow Dawg, Murmeltiertag; Nova Scotia: Daks Day) is a popular tradition celebrated in the United States and Canada on 2 February. It derives from the Pennsylvania Dutch superstition that if a groundhog emerging from its burrow on this day sees a shadow due to clear weather, it will retreat to its den and winter will persist for six more weeks. There are still many remarkable women out there that have always been parts of the great history of the world. They are notable figures to be look upon to; their acts, contributions, and roles inspire us even until today. To keep up with the tradition started on 2018, each month Adorageek celebrates the life of a woman hero. And our woman hero of January is Kinue Hitomi! She was a Japanese athlete, the world record holder in several events in the 1920s – 1930s, and the first Japanese woman to win an Olympic medal. Continue reading
