On 17 March people in Ireland and people of Irish heritage will celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. It is a public holiday in the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland, the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador (for provincial government employees), and the British Overseas Territory of Montserrat. The Carnival of Brazil or Carnaval do Brasil is an annual Brazilian festival held between the Friday afternoon before Ash Wednesday and Ash Wednesday at noon, which marks the beginning of Lent, the forty-day period before Easter. During Lent, Roman Catholics and some other Christians traditionally abstained from the consumption of meat and poultry, hence the term “carnival”, from carnelevare, “to remove (literally, “raise”) meat.” In 2019, Carnaval do Brasil will be held on 1 March to 6 March. 
Let’s be prepared, because one of the biggest festival in the world is coming. Yes, it is time for Carnevale di Venezia or the Carnival of Venice! It is an annual festival held in Venice, Veneto, Italy that ends with the Christian celebration of Lent, forty days before Easter, on Shrove Tuesday (Martedì Grasso or Mardi Gras), the day before Ash Wednesday. The festival is world-famous for its elaborate masks. In 2019, Carnevale di Venezia will takes place on 16 February until 5 March. 
This year, the Chinese New Year or also known as Lunar New Year will be celebrated by Chinese people and people with Chinese ancestry on 5 February, marking the start of the year of the Pig. Chinese New Year is a public holiday in many countries. 
Hello people in Japan! On 8 January 2019 we will celebrate Seijin no Hi or Coming of Age Day! Seijin no Hi is a Japanese holiday held annually on the second Monday of January. It is held in order to congratulate and encourage all those who have reached or will reach the age of majority between April 2 of the previous year and April 1 of the current year, and to help them realize that they have become adults. 
The Feast of the Epiphany is celebrated on 6 January as a national holiday in Italy. During it, there is a traditional holiday celebration where La Befana will arrive on Epiphany Eve (the night of 5 January) to deliver gifts to all children in Italy. She will fill the children’s socks with candy and presents if they are good, or a lump of coal or dark candy if they are bad, similarly with 
Noche de Los Rábanos or The Night of the Radishes will be held on 23 December in Oaxaca, Mexico. It is an annual event dedicated to the carving of oversized radishes to create scenes that compete for prizes in various categories. The city of Oaxaca has a long wood carving tradition and farmers began carving radishes into figures as a way to attract customers’ attention at the Christmas market, which was held in the main square on December 23. 
The Whirling Dervishes Festival is held on 7-17 December 2018 at Konya, Turkey. The festival is held annually to commemorate the death anniversary of the Sufi saint Mevlana, or Rumi as he was known. Rumi believed that communication with God was possible through dance, and so the dance of the whirling dervishes was born with their swirling white flowing robes and black cloaks and conical headgear. In 2008, UNESCO confirmed the “Mevlevi Sama Ceremony” or the whirling dervishes ceremony of Turkey as one of the Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity.
Chichibu Yomatsuri or Chichibu Night Festival is held on 2-3 December at the Chichibu Shrine at Chichibu, Japan. It is considered as one of Japan’s top three festivals that feature floats, the others being Kyoto’s Gion Matsuri and the Takayama Matsuri. From the three festivals, Chichibu Yomatsuri is the only one that is held in winter. In 2016, Chichibu Yomatsuri has been registered as a world cultural heritage event.
