On 5 September we will celebrate the International Day of Charity. Its main purpose is to raise awareness and provide a common platform for charity related activities all over the world.
The International Day of Charity was conceived as a Hungarian civil society initiative supported by the Hungarian Parliament and Government in 2011, to enhance visibility, organize special events, and in this way to increase solidarity, social responsibility and public support for charity. September 5 was chosen in order to commemorate the anniversary of the passing away of Mother Teresa. In response to this proposal, on 17 December 2012 the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution by consensus to designate 5 September as the International Day of Charity.
Let us celebrate the International Day of Charity, by, of course, doing charity! Donate money or goods to your nearest charity organizations. You could also volunteer to help at your nearest mosques, churches, synagogues, or other local social providers. Love animal? Volunteer to help at your nearest animal shelter. Or do something simple as helping your neighbors, especially the senior ones.
How about you? Tell us your favorite International Day of Charity activity, or share your most memorable International Day of Charity celebration!
