Yoga is a group of physical, mental, and spiritual practices or disciplines which originated in ancient India. Yoga is one of the six orthodox schools of Hindu philosophical traditions. There is a broad variety of yoga schools, practices, and goals in Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism. A yogi is a practitioner of yoga. The feminine form, sometimes used in English, is yogini.
The term “yoga” in the Western world often denotes a modern form of Hatha yoga, consisting largely of the postures called asanas, a body posture, originally a sitting pose for meditation, and later in hatha yoga and modern yoga, adding reclining, standing, inverted, twisting, and balancing poses to the meditation seats. This modern yoga became popular in the 1980s. On 1 December 2016, yoga was listed by UNESCO as an intangible cultural heritage.
The Wanderlust Festival is an annual yoga summer festival first held in Squaw Valley, California, in July 2009. Wanderlust has grown from the first festival in Squaw Valley to 7 festivals in the United States and Canada in 2015.
In 2019, the Wanderlust Festival will be launched on major cities across the US. The theme of 2019 Wanderlust Festival is Find Your True North.
