Hero of March: Sameera Moussa

Sameera Moussa Only-01Following Adorageek’s tradition of celebrating woman heroes, and in conjunction of the celebration of International Women Day on 8 March, let us celebrate Sameera Moussa, the woman hero of March!

Born on 3 March 1917, she was an Egyptian nuclear physicist  and held a doctorate in atomic radiation. Sameera Moussa’s lifelong passion was to make the medical use of nuclear technology affordable to all. She organized the Atomic Energy for Peace Conference and sponsored a call for setting an international conference under the banner “Atoms for Peace”. She was also called Mother of Atomic Energy. This year, Holi, a Hindu spring festival, is celebrated on 1-2 March. It is also known as the festival of colors. In the Vikram Samvat Hindu Calendar, Holi starts at the Purnima (full moon day) of month of Phalguna. Holi signifies the victory of good over evil, the arrival of spring, and end of winter. Are you excited for Pokémon Day that is celebrated on 27 February? We are! Pokémon is a media franchise centered on a creature called Pokémon. Humans known as Pokémon Trainers will catch and train them to battle other Pokémon. Musikahan Festival

Marching 4-01Marching 5-01Starting 26 February 2018, the Musikahan festival will be held in Tagum City, the capital of Davao del Norte, Philippines. Tagum City is also nicknamed as the Music Capital of the South.

The Musikahan festival will last until the first week of March. It is a festival to showcase the musical talents of Tagumeños, Mindanaoans, and Filipinos in general. Different local bands, chorales, marching bands, also visiting foreign groups will perform during the Musikahan festival. Continue reading

PyeongChang 2018

Seal-01The 2018 Winter Olympics or commonly known as PyeongChang 2018 will be held on 9 to 25 February in Pyeongchang county, South Korea. The opening ceremony will take place on 9 February, while the closing ceremony will take place on 25 February. PyeongChang 2018 will feature 102 events in 15 sports, making it the first Winter Olympics to surpass 100 medal events. Continue reading

Hero of January: Joan of Arc

Joan of Arc only-01Hear ye, hear ye! Starting this year, Adorageek will also celebrate the life of woman heroes. We have so many remarkable women out there that have always been parts of the great history of the world. They are notable figures to be look upon to; their acts, contributions, and roles inspire us even until today. So every month, Adorageek will celebrate the life of a woman hero who was born in that respective month. You will see heroes from different walks of life, from science to arts to politics; and Adorageek has especially chosen different heroines to represent the diversity of human culture and ethnicity. They are as colorful as we all are!
