Our woman hero of May is Catherine the Great! She was Empress of Russia from 1762 until 1796, the country’s longest-ruling female leader. She came to power following a coup d’état which she organized—resulting in her husband, Peter III, being overthrown. Under her reign, Russia was revitalized; it grew larger and stronger and was recognized as one of the great powers of Europe. That said, however, she was a usurper of the Russian throne because her son, Paul I, should have naturally been the Tsar following Peter III’s death.

Adorageek wants to wholeheartedly congratulate Duncan Laurence who won the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 representing the Netherlands! Adora attended the general rehearsal and witnessed first hand how amazing his performance was. Adora was beyond ecstatic when Duncan won the next day on the grand final! 
Vesak, also known as Buddha Jayanti, Buddha Purnima and Buddha Day, is a holiday traditionally observed by Buddhists and some Hindus on different days in India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Tibet, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Mongolia and the Philippines and in China, Japan, Korea, Taiwan and Vietnam as “Buddha’s Birthday” as well as in other parts of the world. The festival commemorates the birth, enlightenment (Buddhahood), and death (Parinirvāna) of Gautama Buddha in the Theravada or southern tradition.

On 5 May people of Mexican ancestry will celebrate Cinco de Mayo, which means literally Fifth of May. Cinco de Mayo commemorates the Mexican Army’s difficult victory over the French Empire at the Battle of Puebla, on 5 May 1862, under the leadership of General Ignacio Zaragoza. Cinco de Mayo is celebrated in Mexico, the United States, also in other countries with significant Mexican population.
